Fashion designers have decided to take everyone’s favorite decade and update it for the here and now. Styles from the 1980′s have made their way back to the catwalks. In addition a few ideas from the 40′s and 60′s have slipped in as well.
*Jeans are leaning toward the straight leg with cuffs. Denim of every wash is appearing from top clothing makers. Jean jackets have found their way back to the “in” crowd as well.
*Neon (or as it was lovingly referred to 30 years ago, DayGlo) is showing up in tops, skirts and accessories of all kinds.
*The punk look is resurfacing. Rips, tears and safety pins are adorning clothing from even couture designers.
*Tunics are showing up with loud patterns.
*Dresses are tight, short and muulti-tiered.
*Ked-style tennis shoes are showing up in white, bright, checkered and striped.
*Another emergence in the shoe world is the return of loafers suede, even.
*Handbags are showing up larger than ever. Think backpack and briefcase style with two top handles.
*Fabrics for clothing, shoes and accessories are running the gamut, from plastic and leather to satin and organza.
*Two words kitten heels.
*Small, tight and see-through are showing up in skirts, pants, tops and yes, even swimwear.
*A complete 180 degrees from the bare-it-all look is the simplistic minimalist approach. Designers like Jacobs are producing styles that offer complete wearability.
*Love it or hate it, jungle prints are also having another day in the limelight.
*Menswear fashions are taking a late 70′s approach. Belted jackets, pants that are fitted through the seat and thigh and open collars have all been shown in ’11 collections.
*Children’s clothing is seeing plaids, houndstooth and argyle along with mismatched socks (what fun!) and beach-friendly fashions.
Of course, no one HAS to subscribe to the latest trends. The classic styles will always be available, even if spacesuits start to show up on the runways.
